Why do I need a Land Capability Assessment?

A Land Capability Assessment (LCA) is required for all proposed unsewered developments, such as a new residence, prior to the development proceeding. The purpose of the LCA is to:

  • Assess the capability of a site to sustainably manage wastewater within allotment boundaries; and
  • Identify a management program that should be put in place to minimise the health and environmental impacts of on-site wastewater management.

A LCA report will identify the greatest risks to an area of land regarding domestic wastewater management. The level of detail of the LCA will reflect the identified level of risk and will demonstrate how the risk can be managed.
